The coco de mer produces the largest seed in the plant kingdom
A single nut can weigh 25 kilograms
The coco de mer palm grows naturally only on two islands in the Seychelles and takes decades to mature. Its fruit contains one of the largest seeds known, weighing up to about 25 kilograms, and the nuts float, which is how early sailors found them washed up thousands of kilometres away. Harvesting is tightly controlled.
