Greenland is the largest non-continental island in the world
Covering over two million square kilometres, roughly eighty per cent of Greenland is blanketed by a permanent ice sheet.
Although Greenland is geographically part of the North American continent, it has been politically and culturally associated with Europe for centuries as an autonomous territory of Denmark. If the entire Greenland ice sheet were to melt, global sea levels would rise by about seven metres. Despite its massive size, its population remains under sixty thousand inhabitants.
