Socotra Island is home to species found nowhere else on Earth
Located off the coast of Yemen, Socotra is famous for its umbrella-shaped dragon blood trees.
Due to long geographic isolation in the Indian Ocean, nearly thirty-seven per cent of Socotra's plant species and ninety per cent of its reptile species are endemic. The dragon's blood tree produces thick red sap historically used in traditional medicine and dyes. The island UNESCO biosphere reserve features dramatic limestone plateaux and coastal plains.
