The Sun flips its magnetic field poles every eleven years

Solar maximum brings high sunspot numbers solar flares and energetic auroras

The Sun operates on an 11-year solar cycle driven by magnetic dynamo activity inside its convective zone. At the peak of each cycle, known as solar maximum, the Sun's magnetic north and south poles completely flip places, accompanied by elevated numbers of sunspots, solar flares and coronal mass ejections.
