Worth knowingSalt, raising agents and chilli do not always scale linearly

Season to taste rather than by arithmetic: doubling salt or baking powder usually tastes wrong even when the maths is right.

How it works

Type the ingredients one per line, or separated with semicolons, in the form "2 cups flour": the leading number is what gets scaled, the words after it stay put. Halves and quarters work as fractions, so 1 1/2 tsp becomes 3/4 tsp when you halve the recipe.

The formula

Scaled amount = original amount × (desired servings ÷ original servings).
