Function Grapher

Plot up to three functions at once and read points straight off the curve. Type any expression in x and see it drawn: quadratics, roots, reciprocal curves, exponentials and trigonometric waves all work, with three curves on the same axes so you can compare them. Use the free function grapher below for an instant answer, with the working shown so you can check it. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

x fromto

Hover the graph to read points off the first curve.

I do not know a function called "x".

Try x^2, sqrt(x), sin(x), 1/x or e^(-x^2). Angles are in radians here, matching the way functions are usually plotted.

How it works

Type any expression in x and see it drawn: quadratics, roots, reciprocal curves, exponentials and trigonometric waves all work, with three curves on the same axes so you can compare them. The window can be reset or narrowed to a range like −π to π, and hovering the plot reads the coordinates off the first curve, which is the quickest way to find an intercept or check a value against a table.

The formula

y = f(x), sampled across the window and drawn as a polyline; the y axis scales to the data in view

Function Grapher: common questions

What does the Function Grapher work out?: Plot up to three functions at once and read points straight off the curve. It is one of the Math tools on Mondo Knows.
How is the Function Grapher calculated?: Type any expression in x and see it drawn: quadratics, roots, reciprocal curves, exponentials and trigonometric waves all work, with three curves on the same axes so you can compare them. The window can be reset or narrowed to a range like −π to π, and hovering the plot reads the coordinates off the first curve, which is the quickest way to find an intercept or check a value against a table. The maths is short enough to check by hand: y = f(x), sampled across the window and drawn as a polyline; the y axis scales to the data in view.
Do I need to sign up, and is my data stored?: No sign-up, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. The calculation runs in your own browser, so the figures stay on your device and the page works offline once loaded.
