Aluminium foil shiny sides result from rolling metal sheets together

Double rolling foil sheets creates glossy outer sides and matte inner surfaces

Kitchen aluminium foil is manufactured by passing metal sheets between heavy steel rollers. To prevent thin foil from tearing during final reduction, two sheets are rolled through simultaneously. The outer surfaces touching polished steel rollers become glossy, while the inner surfaces pressing together end up with a dull matte finish.
